New Westminster Museum & Archives – Heritage Puzzle Contest
Vote to decide New Westminster’s favourite historic photo from a selection of Archives images! Each person who votes gets entered for a chance to win a custom-printed puzzle of the most-voted image. Families who post images of their Family Day weekend activities to social media and tag @NewWestMuseum will receive a second entry into the contest. Full contest details can be found here.
Spirit of the Children Society – Virtual Storytelling
Join Ernie Cardinal from Spirit of the Children Society as he shares the traditional plains story Fire In the Heart. A story of two young braves racing to become chief that shares the importance of community, family, leadership and responsibility. The video will be free to download from New Westminster’s Family Day event page http://www.newwestcity.ca/familyday

City of New Westminster – Family Day Activity Kits (300 kits)
Our Family Day Activity Kits geared towards family fun both indoors and outdoors. There is something for your family in these kits that will bring everyone together. Included are items from a variety of community and City locations that will for sure bring some family fun. This take-home kits include activities, crafts, information for online activities and other Family Day weekend information. All you need at home is scissors, glue and coloring tools. Registration for a pick-up time slot is required, check out the following time slots and availability online.
New Westminster Museum will be contributing one mini-puzzle to each activity kit. Spirit of the Children Society will be contributing one Indigenous colouring book to each activity kit.

New West Photo Treasure Hunt
Combine the sleuthing skills of the whole family and explore the history of New West with a photographic treasure hunt. Arts Services and New Media Gallery are collaborating to explore the history of New West even deeper with a techie photographic treasure hunt. Read clues and comb over every detail of historical photos. Discover hidden web links that will take you to even more photos and clues. Can you make it to the end?
Unity Video Game Puzzle
New Media Gallery will also use the winning photo to create a video game version of the traditional jigsaw puzzle! You can play this from an internet browser. We’ll also upload a fun video tutorial that teaches you how to program your own video game puzzle using the Unity program.
